This hat is part of a collection of 10 stranded colorwork hats I designed for a book of patterns entitled “Waiting.” The idea for the book came about when my husband was struggling with cancer and we were traveling to seek answers from medical specialists away from home. As I am sure you know, traveling includes waiting.

The hats were extremely satisfying...and distracting...to work on. They also had the added advantage of being small enough to carry around while we were traveling in cars and on planes ...and sitting in waiting rooms.

The good news is twofold. My husband’s outcome is positive and I ended up with a collection of colorful hats.

The names of all the patterns in the book…including this one…reflect some of the people and places along our journey. They represent the doctors, the nurses, and even the hospitals and street names that we encountered on the way. There is no way to thank everyone who helped us.

I hope that while working on this pattern you will find both the comfort and calm I found while designing it.
